Opening a corporate bank account in China

公司银行开户

A new WFOE needs an RMB basic account for day-to-day payments and a foreign-currency capital account to receive registered capital from abroad. Banks run their own checks on the owners and business, which makes this the longest step of most setups, typically four to eight weeks.

The two accounts

  • Basic account (基本户): the company’s main RMB account for paying salaries, rent, taxes and suppliers. A company can have only one.
  • Capital account (资本金账户): receives registered capital in foreign currency from the parent company.

What the bank will ask for

  • Business licence and company chops
  • Articles of association and shareholder documents
  • Identity documents for the legal representative and beneficial owners
  • A description of the business, customers and expected transactions

How we help

We prepare a complete bank pack, choose a bank that fits your situation, and attend the appointments with your legal representative, in person or by video.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the bank take so long?

Banks must verify the company's beneficial owners, the source of the capital and the real business activity. Clear documents and a credible business description speed this up considerably.

Can I choose any bank?

In principle yes, but banks differ in how they handle foreign-owned companies and remote verification. We recommend banks based on your district, currencies and whether you can travel.
